We’ve got a DOPE new album to share with you by duo, DC based rap artist Adama, and Amsterdam based producer Mile$, entitled “SOLDER”; we’re very excited for you to listen to it right now!
Adama and Mile$ first linked up at Kenyon College. They got their start playing local shows which included opening for bigger artists such as Azizi Gibson and up and coming entertainers like FLACO. Mile$ laid down the beat and Adama provided the vocals. Adama currently resides in the DC area; performing and working as a research fellow for the National Institute of Mental Health. Mile$ is studying in Amsterdam at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie where the “SOLDER” album was mastered.
On the surface, the backgrounds of Adama and Mile$ could not seem more different. Mile$ grew up in NY surrounded by the rich culture of the city. Whereas Adama was born and raised in corn surrounded Bloomington Indiana, to a Senegalese mother and an American father. Through his parents, Adama was exposed to many different genres, from West-African artist Youssou N'dour to classic rock in Led Zeppelin.
What brings Adama and Mile$ together is their exposure to music from all over, which bred a love of experimentation and the desire to seek out unique textures. Mile$ is not afraid to work with atonal sounds, twisting and distorting sampled lemur calls on SOLDER's opening track “Birkinglocks”. Later in the album he combines field recording with old Japanese big-band tracks to underscore the ballad of “Dried Strawberries”. The cherry on top for these collaborators is maintaining a tongue and cheek sense of humor, while delivering pop appeal.
If you’re a fan of Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$ or Brockhampton, then you’ll love what Adama and Mile$ are bring to the table with “SOLDER”.
