New York-based Trinidadian-American recording artist DUVV has released her new single and music video “Was You”. “Was You” is the first release from her upcoming six-track EP, ACID, which explores the balance between necessity and toxicity and emotion and spirit. The single and video premiered exclusively at Flaunt Magazine who said “DUVV creates alternative R&B, a futuristic version of soul, studded with enough synthetic firepower to bring her lyricism to life.”
“Was You” serves as a moment of reflection, featuring narrative lyrics about the futility of trying to escape reality. The pop-influenced single discusses the idea of crying in a club setting and explores the notion of meeting your fate on the path taken to avoid it. DUVV’s take on electronic R&B blends the gentleness of ethereal, soulful vocals with the energy of a pulsing club beat.
The video was directed by Jonatán López and Adrian Arredondo from NYC & LA-based production team “DREAMTIGER”. It was shot entirely on film giving it an organic and retro vibe, reminiscent of the 1990’s.
In ACID, DUVV explores the elements of Seoul’s club scene that inspired her. Written and almost entirely produced by DUVV with the exception of one track produced by swimrabbit, ACID unveils an exciting and thought-provoking electronic soundscape.
DUVV discovered her passion for creating music while studying in Seoul, South Korea several years ago. She returned home to New York and soon decided to move to Seoul to learn more about the place where her calling was revealed to her. While living in Seoul, she began cultivating her sound as exhibited in her first collaborative mixtape, ‘WITH YOU IN MIND’. In ACID, DUVV explores the elements of Seoul’s club scene that inspired her.
After receiving critical interest and gaining attention from esteemed publications such as FADER and PAPER MAGAZINE from her first releases, DUVV is ready to release her next project ACID this November.
