Midi Matilda Share Cheerful New Video "Apple Pie"

San Francisco's Midi Matilda—Skyler Kilborn and Logan Grimé—comprise a rather unconventional but extraordinarily catchy electro-pop, and are more than happy to do everything themselves: songwriting, instruments, audio engineering, producing, video production, artwork, and live shows. The duo has just dropped a giddy new video for "Apple Pie".

A different style of storytelling than the band has experimented with in the past, "Apple Pie" follows the duo as they manage to stay hopeful in desperate situations; throughout ridiculous experiences as Uber drivers, fully-clothed back flops into a swimming pool, and more. The video features an incredible amount of fans, friends and family members as extras.

Skyler explains "Apple Pie":

At the time that Logan and I were making the song “Apple Pie” we were, as a band, going through difficult times and dealing with negative music industry issues. That’s what the song "Apple Pie" is about. We wanted the music video to illustrate that time of our lives where we were trying to stay hopeful that things were “gonna get better” amidst working crappy jobs and not living our dreams.

Midi Matilda are the personification of modern music. In addition to their ability to create tunes that are both current, and cutting edge, the band of two are completely self-sufficient in creating video and social content. Every month this year, the band will release a new song, and with it, an hour long video podcast Midi Moments. The first Midi Moments will be released for "Apple Pie" on Jan. 31 via the band's YouTube page. Each single's Midi Moments will be audio recorded onto a cassette tape, that will be customized to represent each track. Then, that tape will be hidden at, or close to, the location where the experience was filmed.

Named after both Grimé’s great, great grandmother and a picture of a robot his dad drew that played music, the duo captures their rather expansive sound live. The band features Grimé on drums and Kilborn utilizing a Misa tri-bass, a unique fusion of an iPad-like touchscreen, three “string” guitar and MIDI controller. It’s not a traditional set up. And the band sees no reason to change that, or any other part of their approach to art. “We don’t want Midi Matilda to just be about people listening to songs,” says Grimé. “We have a lot of great ideas: we want this to be an experience. We want to create cool stuff that’s different ... but still us.””
