Rising California-based alt-rock/trap project Leave the Universe recently returned from nine months in London, where they were writing and creating their debut EP N.W.O., which has been released today via Dead 30 Records. With clear influences in the U.K.'s historical punk rock scene, Leave The Universe seamlessly blends alternative rock, post-punk, and electronic music while exploring themes such as politics, insanity, and love. To celebrate the release, Leave the Universe is debuting the official music video for "If You Find Me." The video for "If You Find Me" was shot, directed, and edited by lead singer Cameron Cole. After filming most of the performance shots, Cole locked himself in the room with nothing but the static TV for an entire night and filmed it, capturing feelings of isolation as a result of being trapped in there. The final video portrays a transparent or glitching visual of the band meant to symbolize his frequent feeling of disconnect from reality, and the feeling that so many have of barely hanging on, struggling to not let depression get the best of you every day. On the video and EP, Cole elaborates:
"This song is a very personal song about depression and disconnection from the world. I have always felt like I don't fit in, and it's often been hard for me to connect with a lot of people like an outsider looking in. This song is about wanting to find that one person that you connect with, that can pull you out of the darkness and make you feel human again. For the video, I wanted to portray visually what the driving emotion of the song was in the simplest form. The visual is meant to show a sort of time lapse of the band being trapped in isolation for a long period of time while also showing the performance aspect of the band. It connects to the overall theme of the N.W.O. EP, which is an honest, unfiltered representation of my aggression, breaking barriers on subjects such as depression, isolation, and the political system. I hope that others can resonate with these feelings and our music." - Cameron Cole
Best described as alt rock/trap, Leave The Universe seamlessly mixes an alternative/emo band sound with the underlying production of hiphop/trap. Lead singer Cameron Cole and guitarist Kalin Pugh spent a year building a strong core following in their home of San Diego before moving to London and forming the Dead 30 Artist collective with Austin Arthur and the rest of the members of The L.I.F.T. While in London, LTU completed their first studio EP titled N.W.O that they plan to release in September. The band explores themes of breaking barriers in subjects such as politics, isolation, mental insanity and love, from a very aggressive and external point of view.
