Launch of the Oak City Comedy Festival, Raleigh, NC, May 22-26th

Raleigh, North Carolina is now the home of a new comedy festival—The Oak City Comedy Festival. Three Raleigh-based comedians have put together a five-day event filled with more than 100 local and national comedians to celebrate the art of comedy and the gift of laughter.

Headlining performances from Andrew Schultz (The Brilliant Idiots Podcast, MTV’s Guy Code), Andy Woodhull (Conan, The Tonight Show w/Jimmy Fallon), Mia Jackson (Last Comic Standing, Just For Laughs), Mike Mello (Opened for Russell Peters, Tracy Morgan, & Dave Chappelle), and J Bliss (Winner of NC Funniest 2017).  Mark Kendall (Alliance Theatre), and North Coast (VH1, The Peoples Improv Theater).  

Produced by Shari Diaz, Matt White, and Vinny Valdivia, The Oak City Comedy Festival will take place in Downtown Raleigh and surrounding areas May 22nd to 26th, 2018. Venues like Kings, Imurj, Watts & Ward, The Outpost, Sonorous Road, Comedy Works, Goodnights Comedy Club will house multiple comedy showcases featuring a mix of stand up, improv, and sketch comedy acts, as well as a few comedy open mics throughout the week. 

The Oak City Comedy Festival is possible due to a newly thriving comedy scene that has evolved in Raleigh, in which the festival producers are more than active. They are all veteran performers as well as producers of multiple show runs and one-off shows in the Triangle area. Shari Diaz, the Bronx born comedian produces shows through her company, Boogie Down South Productions, bringing her BX style to the south. Matt White and Vinny Valdivia both teach comedy and produce comedy shows at Moonlight Stage Company and Goodnights Comedy Club. They both have a very diverse comedy background. Improv, Sketch Comedy and Stand up. White has gained notoriety with several comedy contest wins and performing in comedy festivals throughout the county. 

They see the festival as another opportunity to give stage time to emerging comics. “The comedy scene in Raleigh is poised to become a go-to for entertainment industry scouts and agents in search of up-and-coming talent. We want to showcase and celebrate all that Raleigh has to offer.”
