DOPEST Song of the Week: "Baddie Alert" by King Scholar

Our new DOPEST Song of the Week, “Baddie Alert”, comes from King Scholar, a hip-hop/rap artist and songwriter based in Maryland. Originally born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, he was raised in Providence, Rhode Island. Music has always been a major influence in Scholar's life. The youngest of 6, he was involved in his church choir along with his siblings. It wasn't until high school Scholar discovered the art of flowing and lyricism.

Scholar's older brother was a music producer for local acts in the city. During his downtime, he would ask Scholar to record in order to test out his new program updates and recording equipments. As time passed, Scholar began writing lyrics on popular instrumentals (i.e. The Clipse, Jay-z, Fabolous, etc...), then eventually his brother's exclusive beats. At times, Scholar would sneak in and record himself to improve his vocal abilities.

Scholar took music seriously when his childhood best friend came to his house one day to make music. At first it started out as a joke until they both realized something amazing can stem from this. From then on, they began continuously recording music until they formed a group named Y.B.S. Ironically they attended the same university and performed at many different locations and college campuses. They released a few mixtapes and music videos. They then took a hiatus from music as many life circumstances occurred. Now Scholar has returned to the scenes as a solo artist ready to make his imprint in the music industry.
