Sydney contemporary artist Elsen Price returns with two singles ‘Now’ and ‘View From The Moon Revisited’ off his upcoming highly anticipated album ‘The Life Long Day Dreamer’.

The singles will be released via Sydney Jazz Label Rippa Recordings, a label directed by Bell Award winning Jazz Saxophonist James Ryan.

The first Single ‘Now’ is a small fragment of the overall album. The single was inspired by a two hour long improvised performance Elsen did online at Sydney Jazz Space ‘Johnston Street Jazz’ (JSJ) at a secret location during the 2020 Covid 19 epidemic. In true nature as an Internationally regarded Double Bassist and Improvisor, he did a non-stop, no holds barred performance to a small live streaming crew in a secret location in Sydney’s Inner West.

‘Now’ appears approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes into the overall performance, and is a reflective and short piece, demonstrating some of the beauty, virtuosity and jazz inspired harmony on electric bass, building in colour and density as the piece evolves.

Elsen had returned from performance and workshops in the UK in February to find himself in the position of no performance or travel opportunities, with a common angst, fear and confusion experienced by not only musicians, but people all over the world.

He was also scheduled to be performing Electric Bass in a professional theatre show during that time, and with all performances immediately cut, Elsen decided to include the Electric Bass too, a musical first since debuting his work as a soloist in 2012.

The second single ‘View from the Moon Revisited’ is a performance of a solo Double Bass work Elsen performs at the end of any improvised performance, and has done since 2012. The piece appears on Elsen’s previous album ‘Red Planet’ and is inspired by the often reflective and third person point of view Astronauts feel when looking at Earth from space.

On the singles Elsen says, “Seeing the planet in all its glory without any of the insignificant things to complicate the view. This is reflective of the current pandemic times of Covid 19, in that despite the issues faced by the world at the moment, the Earth and the empathy of people to each other during this time is a very beautiful thing.

The full album ‘The Life Long Day Dreamer’ will be launched 5th of November at the Old Theatre 505 in Newtown (Level 1, 5 Eliza St, Newtown, NSW, 2042). Supporting the night will be Sydney Art Music group the ‘Vermillion Trio,’ $35 entry (including $10 drink tab) 8pm start.
